Hello, my name is Jim. I bet you want me to tell you about my big adventure.
Firstly, humanity lives on planet Venus now, because Earth got destroyed by a massive asteroid. We had to evacuate everyone as quickly as possible and gladly fitted a lot of people into the spaceships. We had to find ourselves a new home. We chose Venus for many reasons. Mercury is a too small planet and also has huge ranges of temperature between day and night. It is not a convenient planet to live on. Mars was a popular choice of many people, until we realised that it is a very small planet too and therefore its low gravity would’ve caused major inconveniences. Jupiter and all the further planets were too far away and our spaceships would not have managed to keep all the humanity in space for so long, so we went for the remaining choice – Venus. It is almost the same size and mass as the Earth and therefore has almost similar to Earth gravitational strength. Also chemical compositions of both planets are roughly similar. Still many say it is the least habitable place in the whole solar system, but gladly we’ve managed to come up with good solutions.
Venus is the hottest planet in the solar system as its atmosphere is mostly made of carbon dioxide, therefore creating a greenhouse effect and trapping a lot of heat within it. Also Venus’ atmospheric pressure is over 90 times stronger than Earth’s. It was our luck that a metal called Crufax was discovered shortly before the asteroid incident had happened. It has a melting point of over 2000°C and gladly can withstand Venus’ powerful atmospheric pressure. Therefore we’ve managed to build massive domes out of Crufax where we’ve created a well-controlled micro-climate similar to composition of Earth’s atmosphere. However when any of us needs to come outside then we wear specific suits which are called Crufacles. They are made entirely out of Crufax. Each one has an air filter that can convert carbon dioxide from Venus’ atmosphere into suitable to life oxygen. More expensive versions also have a radio so we can communicate with each other. Military versions also have spaces for weapons to be mounted. The only drawback is that crufacles are relatively heavy and therefore it is not very convenient to wear them all the time. Luckily though they have been designed to compress themselves so people who enter domes do not have to wear them in a full-blown form. Venus’ crust contains a lot of elements that can easily be converted into Crufax, so we can hope that we won’t run out of it.

t about what we can use as a source of energy. There are two major sources of energy being used right now. First one is the energy that comes from the volcanoes. Venus is special for having masses of volcanoes and having an amazing volcanic activity. Second source of energy is the Sun. We built a lot of solar panels outside the domes and because Venus is closer to the Sun than the Earth was, this method is more effective here than it was on Earth. We are also hoping to build some nuclear power stations and to use radioactive sources for energy as well.
We brought a lot of food with us and plant majority of it in order to get some crops. We’ve got some livestock too, but there is not enough of it to feed everyone, so meat is a bit of a problem for now, but I am sure that someone can come up with something soon enough. There is a special type of tablets that was invented not so long ago. One tablet has enough protein content for a person for one day, so our diet still has proteins.
We moved to Venus when I was 14 years old. I am 29 now and it is a year 2121. My current job is a V.E.N.U.S. member. It is the most popular police force on planet Venus. V.E.N.U.S. stands for Vast Elimination of Negotiations Universal Security. We have missions in many places of Venus planet and probably can be considered as the biggest travellers in this planet. Only thing to note is that we’ve only populated about half of Venus’ surface. There is still a huge piece of land that nothing was built on.
For 14 years we’ve managed to turn a hostile planet into an area where people can live. All of this was about to change. It all happened with a robbery.
