I opened my eyes for a few split seconds and could see bravo team. Looks like some of them made it here.
- “Hey, Agent Rocker is still alive. We need a medic!” one of them shouted
I kept on losing my consciousness and regaining it back every few minutes until I finally woke up in a hospital bed. Chloe was there beside me.
- “Welcome back!” She said when she saw that I gained my consciousness back.
- “Huh? God! What an adventure.” I said quietly.
- “I am glad that you made it. When you didn’t return home yesterday I began getting worried.” Chloe was saying, “So I called your boss and he explained the situation to me. I was scared to lose you.”
- “How long have I been there?” I wondered.
- “Almost two days.” Chloe replied.
I didn’t realise how long I’ve been there. It seemed much less than that. Some flashbacks were still popping up in my head. I didn’t really enjoy them as they were not nice experiences. At this moment the door to the room opened and David came in.
- “Jim, glad to know that you made it.” David began and sat down next to my hospital bed too.
- “David, there’s so much to talk about. I can’t believe V.E.N.U.S. force was behind all this.” I said.
- “We aren’t.” David justified, “We just happened to have some rebels.”
- “Well Chuck told me about a guy named Bakk who used to be a commander for V.E.N.U.S. and he came up with a project called ‘The Great Survivor’ in order to make humans immune to this planet’s atmosphere. This is madness, isn’t it?”
David’s eyes widened. He couldn’t believe what he was hearing and after a few seconds spoke:
- “All right, this is making more sense than I thought.”
- “Why?” I asked.
- “It was me who came up with project ‘The Great Survivor’. I came up with that on the first place, but I didn’t want to risk putting it to use as I knew it would create many problems. Bakk was my elder brother. It sounds like he stole my idea and decided to actually work on it. I can’t believe all this time he kept that project hidden from me. May he rest in peace.”
- “What?!” I couldn’t believe it, “You? You came up with ‘The Great Survivor’? And Bakk is your brother?”
Chloe was getting very lost in mine and David’s conversation. David couldn’t believe any of it either. It was just too big of a surprise for us all.
- “All right then Jim, get better soon.” David said and began leaving.
- “Hey, what happened to the secret lab?” I asked out of curiosity.
- “We’re still collecting evidence there, but you turned out to be the best evidence we have.” David explained.
- “What about the creatures?” I wondered.
- “Extinct, as far as I know.” David said.
- “Then this is over.” I said.
- “Anyways, looking forward to seeing you back at work, Jim. You’ve proven yourself to be a great hero and are now the best current V.E.N.U.S. member. Well done!”
With these words David left the room. Chloe then looked at me and said sweetly:
- “You see?! I told you that you are the best.”
- “I just did what I thought would be best for humanity.” I said.
- “Ah I love you.” Chloe said and kissed me.

A couple of days later I recovered completely and could go back to work. I was glad that I stopped a madman and his organisation from raising an apocalypse in a new world, the one yet to which we’ve left to adapt to. It is true that with every win there’s a loss and maybe Bakk’s research could change the world for the best, but it would bring too many casualties and so I knew that I did the right thing by not allowing it to continue. Every world, every disaster and every war has its hero and I am glad that this one was no exception.
