Chapter 10 – The gruesome hills

The flight didn’t take so long, but because we were nervous every second seemed to go on forever. Our Alpha team landed in a different area to Bravo and Charlie as we needed to go in through the lower levels and to skip all the higher levels. This meant that we had to stop in a valley near to Dome #13. The steepness of the hills next to it didn’t allow us to stop close to it, even though Spiflyers were good at landing almost on anything. This meant we’ll have to have a bit of a walk uphill.
And that’s exactly what happened. The walk was very gruesome and tiring, especially considering we had to walk uphill with our crufacles being full-blown. While half-way there I got a radio call from David:
- “Jim, have you guys arrived yet?”
- “We landed but we are still walking up to the entrance.” I replied.
- “Excellent. Keep me informed every now and then.” He said.
- “Yes sir.” I said.
We continued our walk. A few paces on Rick and Jack wanted some rest. So we did it. I checked that magazines in my guns were loaded and ready to use. Weapons I carried were V pistol and SSS. Jack and Rick both had V submachineguns and V pistol, and Jeffrey had MAγ(gamma) sniper rifle and a V pistol.
About 5 minutes later we carried on. The cliffs were nasty, but nothing can beat the spirit of V.E.N.U.S. members. We reached the lower level entrance to Dome #13 soon. That entrance was not used in years, so we had to throw a couple of shockwave grenades at the door and rubble next to it for a way to clear up. The grenades did the trick and we went in. It was pretty dark in there so we had to switch on our night vision. The place has been abandoned for many years and in this darkness we had to find the entrance to the secret labs.
I must say it wasn’t easy. It took us about an hour, but soon we came across a chamber with some light.
- “We must be on the right track.” I said.
- “I wonder how they make their way through that darkness.” Jack said.
- “I doubt they do.” I said, “They must have an alternate method of getting here, perhaps some secret passage that we’re not aware of.”
- “Good point.” Jack said.
The chamber then led to a dimly lit with red light corridor. We made our way through it, then down the stairs until we came across a door.
- “All right, we better watch out for cameras here.” Jeffrey said.
We pushed the door open and went through it.
